01/10/2021The Town of Cottesloe has joined forces with e-bike specialists BYKKO to trial an e-bike share scheme in the Town.
Local operator Ozie Bike will run the program which consists of an integrated bike docking system with a mobile device check out that allows you to rent an e-bike whenever you like. Simply scan the QR code at the station or visit ozie.bykko.net to get riding!
Three stations with four electric bikes each will be located around the Town. One on Curtin Avenue outside Cottesloe Train Station (next to the Lucky Country sculpture), one on the foreshore next to the Napier Street playground and one next to Cottesloe Surf Life Saving Club.
Acting Mayor Cr Lorraine Young says the scheme is a great way for the Town to test out a smart mobility option with the community.
“Being the first Local Government in Western Australia to trial smart e-bike rental, we are proud that the Town is able to be a leader in the smart mobility space and we hope this becomes a popular alternative for short trips.”
“Enhancing the wellbeing of our residents and visitors is one of our key priorities and providing easy access to active travel options supports this goal.”
BYKKO Managing Director Monica Zarafu says locating docking stations at existing transport nodes creates a seamless ‘first and last mile’ option for users.
“E-bike sharing is a really affordable way to get from A to B, it has fantastic health benefits and helps towns and cities address congestion from traffic especially short trips up to 10 kilometres.”
“Our core purpose is to make communities greener, safer, healthier, more livable and provide solutions to minimise barriers to cycling and active travel – e-bike share schemes tick all of these boxes.”
Acting Mayor Young added that the scheme will complement the vision in the Cottesloe Foreshore Masterplan.
“A key part of the Foreshore Masterplan is connecting and celebrating all modes of transport and the future works will support cycling as a viable transport option with wide promenades and shared pathways.”
Ozie Bike e-bike rental will be available in the Town from Thursday, 16 September. Find out more at ozie.bykko.net.
